Michael Raduga reportedly lost a significant amount of blood while undertaking a 10-hour procedure on his own head. Raduga, who maintains that he has no neurosurgery qualifications whatsoever, performed the procedure in an effort to implant an electrode designed to help him control his dreams.He told reporters that he used paperclips to hold his scalp in place and a drill bought at a hardware store to open a hole in his skull so that he could implant the electrode in his brain.
“During the first 30 minutes I was ready to give up many times because first of all I lost a lot of blood – approximately a liter of blood,” he said. “And I was afraid I could just lose consciousness.”
He was seemingly motivated by a desire to help other people experience lucid dreams. “For many people, [controlling dreams] will be some sort of entertainment,” he told The Daily Mail.
“Now, imagine a paralyzed person who cannot experience anything in this life and now we find a way to help him to get into a lucid dream where everything is possible.”
Even though the procedure appeared to be successful, Raduga is not out of the woods yet because it is unclear what sort of lasting damage he may have inflicted on himself.
